SoHo Soapbox Race – Specifications
Welcome to the SoHo Soapbox Race “The SoHo Soaper”! We’re excited to have you join us for a day of fun, creativity, and friendly competition. These specifications are designed to ensure the safety and fairness of the race. Please read them carefully and contact us if you have any questions.
SoHo Soapbox Race – Soapbox Specifications
I. Safety Requirements:
*Brakes: All soapboxes must have at least one mechanical braking systems:
A foot-operated brake capable of stopping the soapbox quickly and effectively.
A hand-operated brake. If your unsure discuss with race officials.
*Steering: Steering mechanisms must be responsive and reliable. To prevent overly sharp turns, it is suggested to limit the turning diameter to less than 10 feet (3 meters).
*Wheels: Suggested that the Soapbox is built with rubber tires at least 8” in diameter. Metal wheels (no rubber) will not be accepted. Wheels must be properly affixed to the axles.
*Driver Compartment: The driver must be securely seated in a seat with a backrest.
*Inspection: All soapboxes will undergo a safety inspection before the race. Any soapbox that fails inspection will not be allowed to race until the issues are corrected and re-inspected.
II. Construction Guidelines:
*Frame Material: Strong and durable materials are required for the soapbox frame. The frame must be sturdy enough to withstand the stresses of racing.
*Dimensions: While there are no strict size limitations, the soapbox should be of a reasonable size to ensure maneuverability and safety.
*Racer construction kits are available- send us a message and inquire as limited numbers
III. Driver Requirements:
*Helmet: Drivers must wear an approved helmet (e.g., motorcycle, bicycle, or skateboarding helmet).
*Protective Gear: Drivers are strongly encouraged to wear additional protective gear, such as elbow and knee pads, gloves, and sturdy shoes.
*Age Restrictions: Drivers under 18 will require parental/guardian consent.
IV. Race Day Information:
*Course: The race course is South Street, starting at Waterloo and ending 30m from Wellington.
*Finish Line: The finish line will be 30m from Wellington and be followed by an area of sand to help racers come to a safe stop.

By participating in the race, you agree to abide by these specifications and all other rules and regulations set forth by the organizers.
V1. Additional information Racer registration cut off date is Wednesday May 21st 2025. We have many interested parties and must limit the number of participants. It is a good idea to register early.
