Happy Halloween!

Ahead of tomorrow night’s festivities, we remind all residents to be on the lookout for the little ones walking our streets in search of treats. Please ensure that you drive slowly, and parents, please make sure that costumes are visible in the dark.

Our neighbour, Rajaie El Shorafa, remains in critical condition in hospital while police search for his attacker. Should you see Jessie McConnell, please call 911.

Shelby’s Food Express and Edgar & Joe’s are raising funds for the El Shorafa Family; Shelby’s will donate $1 for every plate sold up to tomorrow, and Edgar & Joe’s will donate $1 from every hot beverage sold until November 3rd. Both restaurants will provide catering for a benefit concert this Friday, November 3rd to be held at Call the Office on York Street. Tickets are $5 at the door and there will additional raffles.

A Go-Fund-Me page has been set up for the family by Shelby’s:ย  https://www.gofundme.com/helping-horton-varity-victim

We are grateful to Edgar & Joe’s, Shelby’s Food Express, and Jesse McCabe and Call the Officeย for their incredible kindness in supporting a neighbour family in need.

The rain water collection gardens on Waterloo Street have been completed. All that remains is for plants to be added next spring. These gardens are designed to cleanse the water that runs into the Thames River after heavy rainfalls. And I can assure our residents that we are already the envy of the membership of the Urban League because we have them!

With respect to the development planned by Medallion Corporation for the old hospital lands, the company is currently carrying out the due diligence phase of the project and have yet to submit a planning application. The city planning department will be facilitating a meeting for our residents with the corporation at that time. Stay tuned!
