Elocution: The Life of Richard Berry Harrison is a wonderful audio play and slide show about one of SoHo’s most celebrated natives. The Black actor, who grew up near the Wellington Street Bridge, became the toast of Broadway in the 1930s. He is the only Londoner to ever grace the cover of Time Magazine. Jeff Culbert’s play, performed by noted Canadian actor Walter Borden, is available at jeffculbert.ca. The 1:53 minute performance is well worth watching and contains many historic photos of London & area. Richard Berry Harrison Park, just west of the Wellington Street Bridge, was named in the actor’s honor.
